Penang International Airport Expansion – Designed by Ergun Group
As part of a major terminal expansion at Penang International Airport, Ergun Group proposed a vibrant, climate-responsive design to double the airport’s capacity to 12 million passengers annually.
The new terminal, designed as an independent yet integrated structure, features six new contact gates, a modular prefabricated roof inspired by local patterns, and a pedestrian-centered public realm that captures the spirit of Penang.
Tree-like columns, filtered daylight, and integrated landscaping define the architecture, blending efficiency with cultural identity. Supporting developments include new ground transport hubs, hotel and retail spaces, an air traffic control tower, and rescue facilities—establishing a holistic, future-ready airport precinct.
